Guide Service

The Evening Hatch can provide you with a most enjoyable guide trip. Our resident guides have many years of fly-fishing experience here in the Pocono’s of Pennsylvania, in the Catskills of New York, the and of course the famous Delaware River.  We can offer you several trout fishing options, which include Walk & Wade trips and Drift Boat excursions. Each trip is dependant on the area and the time of the year. All trips are designed for both the beginners or advanced anglers.

Raft and pontoon that our guides use in their float trips.

Frequently Asked Questions….

What is included?

Our one-day trips include a full day ( approx. 8 hours ) of guided fishing, either wade or drift boat, and lunch.   Start times will vary as season progresses, but should be determined by the guide. Please inform us of any diet restrictions when booking your trip.

What do I need to bring?

Each trip is different and gear selection will depend on the type of fishing you will be doing.  Once you decide on a particular trip and confirm your dates, we will let you know what you’ll need.  You will need a fly rod with reel and line, or we can rent one to you for the day.  A complete fly rod, with reel and line can be rented for $25 a day.  Yes, we will also do guided trips for Spinner / Lure fishermen, but please remember we practice Catch & Release !

Must I be an excellent fly fisher?

Absolutely not. Beginner ( one with little experience in fly fishing ) or seasoned pro, we will tailor the trip to your level of experience.  For the beginner, we can  provide some casting instruction or whatever you may need to make your day enjoyable.  If you have never fly fished before, we recommend taking our fly fishing school.

What time will my trip begin?

As a general rule, the guide will select your starting time which is determined by time of year and current fishing conditions.  Your day of fishing will last about 8 hours.  Due to insurance policies and liabilities, clients must provide own transportation to stream.  May follow guide or will be given directions / map to meeting point.

Anything Else ?

On walk / wade trips, waders are a must. We can not supply waders for anyone on a rental basis, as a matter of personal hygiene.  A vest and hat are necessary, and we also recommend a pair of polarized sunglasses, warm clothing if required for time of year, rain gear, and your camera or camcorder.  For you fly-tyers, please check with us for current patterns.  And of course, you’ll need a fishing license.  Your Pennsylvania fishing license, as well as any other fishing necessities that you might need for your trip is all available here at our shop. If you choose a New York trip, you’ll need to purchase a New York license when you get to your destiny.

Additional meals before and after your trip will be your responsibility, and there are several enjoyable restaurants within a very short distance.  There are also the usual fast food places all within a half-mile of the Hatch.

Fun  on

 the Lehigh River !

2008 Trips and Rates

( Please note that the below prices are for one or two anglers. Prices will increase for 3 or more anglers.  Please contact us for pricing. )

THE LEHIGH RIVER; offers excellent fly and spin fishing for browns, brook and rainbow trout as well as some steelhead. In addition to state stockings and some wild trout, The Lehigh River Stocking Association has been stocking the river for many years with 11” to 28” fish, along with fingerlings.  There is a mix of deep flat water and class 1,2 and 3 rapids.  We can do trips on the lower section of the Lehigh ( Glen Onoko downstream to Bowmanstown), or we can do a trip on the upper section located within the Lehigh Gorge State Park ( White Haven downstream to Rockport ).  The upper trip requires additional park permits per angler, hence the difference in prices below.

Lehigh River Rates:

Walk / Wade :  $300 per day ( 1 or 2 anglers )

Lower Section Glen Onoko & downstream Float Trip :  $350 per day ( 1 or 2 anglers )

Upper Section ( Gorge ) White Haven & downstream Float Trip: $370 ( 1 angler )*

Upper Section ( Gorge ) White Haven & downstream Float Trip: $390 ( 2 anglers )*

Downstream float trips require some angler / guide teamwork.  Angler will follow the guide from the shop, or the angler will meet the guide at the TAKE OUT point of the trip, which is Bowmanstown.  The guide will already have dropped the boat at the launch point in Glen Onoko, but will then take his vehicle downstream to meet the anglers.  At this meeting point, the guide will "hop" a ride with the anglers up to the start point in Glen Onoko.  Your 8 hour trip will then begin, and when you end at the take out point in Bowmanstown, the guide will then drive the anglers back up to their vehicle.

Please advise the shop ahead of time if this arrangement will not work!!

*Float trips on the upper section of the Lehigh River, which is from White Haven to Rockport, adds an additional $20 per person due to fees levied by the Lehigh Gorge State Park.

( Total of $370 for one, or Total of $390 for two anglers.)

THE POHOPOCO CREEK;  is 2 distinctly different streams.

ABOVE BELTZVILLE DAM: moderate in size, freestone, with mostly streambred Browns and some Brookies.  Hatches are fairly typical and diverse.  Runs through a lot of private land, but is open courtesy of local landowners.

BELOW BELTZVILLE DAM: tailwater fishery and is stocked by the state for about  1 1/2 miles of the 3 miles before it's confluence with the Lehigh River at Parryville.  Large population of healthy Browns with some beautiful Brookies.  Some large trout come up from the Lehigh.  Has a great sulphur hatch and good BWO's, but it is primarily a Caddis stream. Because it is a tailwater, stream temps. remain terrific all summer.  An option in this area is also to fish the Lehigh River from Jim Thorpe to Walnutport.

Pohopoco Rates:

Walk / wade :  $300 per day ( 1 or 2 anglers )

THE BUSHKILL;  beautiful Pocono trout stream.. Smaller creek with clear cold water, especially nice at Ressica Falls.

Bushkill Rates:

Walk / wade :  $300 per day ( 1 or 2 anglers )

DELAWARE RIVER ; the premier river in the Northeast. It has so much to offer with its scenery and wild trout. This is a piece of heaven that generation after generation has enjoyed.  Fish the East, West, or Main branch, depending on conditions. Therefore catch and release is required for all fish caught.

Delaware River Rates:

We’re sure you will be most satisfied on your day-a-stream.  Don’t forget your camera,,,, the sights are beautiful, and there is no telling what you’ll see in the beautiful woodlands of the Pennsylvania Pocono’s, the Catskills of New York or the Great Lakes areas.  It is common to see deer, turkey, beaver and even a bear or two.  But don’t worry—they don’t fly fish !
