Streams Report

STREAM REPORT

June 24, 2015

As we near the end of June, we have had some pretty good fishing this month, thanks to much-needed rain and good water temperatures. The Lehigh River has fished very well, most recently with Sulfurs. Except for the heavy rainfall days, the river had been running around 350 to 400 cfs, which is really good for late June.  The river temps have been around mid sixties,,, again real good for late June. The fish have been active with some reports of several fish being caught in just a few hours during the early evening to dark.

The sulfurs have done well, as have Slate Drakes at certain times. Watch for Light Cahill's, Pale Morning Duns, and light colored hatches. Blue Winged Olives always work, especially on those rainy and cloudy days.  And now that we are in full swing of summer, start throwing ants, beetles and hoppers. Tis the season !!

Below is a Stream Data Report for the Tobyhanna Creek, that was compiled by Janet Schmitt on May 30, 2015.

I have posted it for you to take a look at.

Click on the link below to see Janet's Stream Data,,,

When you see the workmanship on these rods you're gonna want to own one!!  We will also offer rod restorations as well as rod repairs.

WHITE WATER RELEASES FOR 2015

( As per the Francis E. Walter Reservoir Recreation Operations Plan for 2105 )

The plan, developed in partnership with Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, lists dates and release amounts for whitewater and fisheries releases for the 2015 recreation season.

The plan incorporates several changes from the previous year.

In 2015, water will again be allocated to ensure whitewater releases from July to late August and fisheries releases from July to early September.

Seasonal precipitation and water accumulation will be used for releases later in the season (late August through mid-October).

Planned dates for Fishing Releases (target 400 cubic feet per second) are:

*March 7, 8  ●

*March 14, 15 ●

*March 21, 22 ●

*March 28, 29 ●

*April 4, 5 ●

*April 11, 12 ●

*April 18, 19  ●

April 25, 26 ●

*May 2, 3 ●

*May 10 ●

*May 17 ●

**October 9,  12

* Release will be set to match inflow with a target release up to 400 cubic feet per second

The White Water Release Schedule ( target 600 to 800 cubic feet per second) includes 20 dates with the potential

for an additional six dates if sufficient water storage is accumulated in the reservoir.

Planned white water release dates are:

May 9, ●

May 16  ●

May 23, 24 ●

June 13, 14 ●

June 27, 28 ●

July 11, 12 ●

July 25, 26

August 1, 2

August 8, 9

August 15, 16

August 22, 23

August 29*, 30*

Sept 5*, 6*

October 10 - 11**

* Dependent on additional water accumulation in reservoir.

**The October 9 - 12 release is for both fishing and white water and will only occur if sufficient stored water is available.

This is the last added increment for the 2015 recreation plan and is intended to release all excess water.

Late season white water, fishing and fisheries enhancement releases are dependent upon precipitation and water accumulation.

All dates are dependent on hydrologic conditions and the absence of the need for flood control operations.
